The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released the Engineering Services Examination (ESE) 2027 notification for recruitment to various Group ‘A’ and Group ‘B’ engineering services/posts under the Government of India.
Approximately 480 vacancies are expected to be filled across Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, and Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering disciplines, including 19 PwBD vacancies.
Eligible engineering graduates aged 21 to 30 years can apply online from 16 September 2026 to 06 October 2026 through the UPSC online portal.
IMPORTANT: No prior work experience is prescribed as a general eligibility requirement for ESE 2027. Candidates must, however, satisfy the prescribed engineering qualification, age, nationality and other conditions.

Eligibility Criteria
Educational Qualification
Candidates must possess an Engineering Degree or equivalent qualification from a recognised institution/university.
Certain equivalent qualifications are also accepted as specified in the official ESE 2027 rules. For some specified services, relevant M.Sc. qualifications may also be accepted.
Candidates appearing in the qualifying examination may also apply provisionally, subject to fulfilling the prescribed conditions.
Age Limit
Candidates must be 21 to 30 years old as on 01 January 2027.
- Minimum Age: 21 Years
- Maximum Age: 30 Years
- SC/ST: Up to 5 years relaxation
- OBC: Up to 3 years relaxation
- PwBD: Up to 10 years relaxation
- Other relaxations: As per UPSC rules
Experience
EXPERIENCE IMPORTANT: No prior work experience is required as a general eligibility condition for UPSC ESE 2027. The candidate must meet the prescribed educational qualification and other eligibility requirements.
UPSC ESE 2027 Selection Process
The selection process consists of three stages:
- Stage-I: Preliminary Examination – 500 Marks
- Stage-II: Main Examination – 600 Marks
- Stage-III: Personality Test/Interview – 200 Marks
The Preliminary Examination is objective type, while the Main Examination consists of conventional engineering papers. One-third negative marking applies in the objective papers.
Application Fee
The application fee is ₹200.
Female, SC, ST and PwBD candidates are exempted from payment of the examination fee. OBC/EWS candidates are required to pay the prescribed fee.
